Here’s a good video with examples of practical application of the method:
Feldenkrais® Method improves functioning of brain and nervous system resulting in improved movement, emotional state and cognitive abilities. Neuroplasticity – the ability of brain to change it structure and function – allows positive changes at any age and level of fitness. The method refers to these changes as ‘learning’ and practitioners are called ‘students’ rather than patients.
The movement aspect focusses on musculoskeletal performance: better posture and better movement lead to less pains, recovery from injuries and generally increased longevity of movement and vitality. These efficiency and longevity through better organization are especially marked in senior students. Movement professionals such as musicians, dancers and athletes use the Method to achieve top performance while eliminating repetitive strain and injuries.
The Method is known and famous for improved movement, however its foundational principle is the unity of motion, emotion and cognition in the nervous system. As such the Method positively impacts emotional and cognitive aspects of our activities. Movement in this case serves as a tool to trigger changes in the brain and at the same time as an objective and observable measure of change. Through movement the change can be observed and confirmed with confidence instead of relying on vague and disputable descriptions of mental and emotional states. For all those involved in cognitive activities using computers, phones, etc., improved sitting reduces fatigue and increases productivity. Improved cognitive and emotional functions lead to better decision-making and reduce burnout and its impact on social life.
