Pain-free back: book review

Quite a good book, originally from 2008. It drives home a very important point that our posture – and by extension the manner of movement – is a cultural product. That’s good news – we’re not genetically sentenced to a back pain, we can re-learn and improve.

Many methods and art forms are quoted as inspiration for the book: yoga, Pilates, traditional dances and drumming, but not Feldenkrais. That’s good news too – quite independently Gokhale has arrived to essentially the same postural values and reasons for their loss in our daily life.

Enjoyable and easy read or browse-through due to many original photos and high-quality illustrations. Lots of sound self-help advice.

At the same time – a book’s a book’s a book. Having all the right ideas and words in one’s head is not a replacement for somatic practice. So, please move yourself!
