Recovery after stroke

Jill Taylor was a 37-year-old Harvard-trained brain scientist when a blood vessel exploded in her brain. An amazing book on challenges and possibilities of recovery after stroke.

It has some important indications as to where Feldenkrais method can help recovery after stroke:

… I needed to heal my brain and challenge my neurological systems. – p.97

A Feldenkrais lesson can create a sensory assault on the brain through its motor system, triggering recovery through neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity refers to brain’s capacity to form new neural connections around damaged areas. Such connections can be formed in any age, not only during brain growth and development at the young age.

My personal experience shows a strong connection between recovery of speech and motor function in clients with brain injury, so it is worth discussing possibilities of speech rehabilitation, not only motor function.
